Born Howard Black, Super Black is from the Maxfield Avenue area of Kingston. He began recording in the early 1980s, hanging out and recording for legendary engineer/producer Osbourne ‘King Tubby” Ruddock.
The summer of 1987 was a hot time for singer Super Black, who had the dancehall rocking to his hit song, Deh Wid Yuh. Produced by Lloyd ‘King Jammy’s James, it remains his signature. Even though he continues to record, Super Black acknowledged the difficulty of topping his biggest hit.
“Is a great song, but we’d have a likkle name out deh before dat song tek off. An’ wi still a put out some good tune,” he said.
In recent years, Super Black has released a number of songs including “Jackson Face”, which hits out against skin bleaching;
“Hot Needle Bun Thread” and “In Your Eyes”.
