The Court of Appeal is to hear the appeal of convicted dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel in February of next year.
The date of February 19 was set on Tuesday at a case management hearing involving Kartel’s lawyers and crown prosecutors.
The two teams are to return to court in December for another case management hearing to ensure that all the required documents are ready for the February 19 appeal.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, and three other co-convicts were sentenced to life imprisonment in April 2014 for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. The others are Andre ‘Mad Suss’ St John, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell and Kahira Jones.
Evidence was led at the sensatonal trial – the longest in the country’s history – in the Supreme Court, that Williams was killed at a house owned by Kartel in Havendale, St Andrew, but his body was never found.
While there were a number of technical issues and challenges during the trial, including among the panel of jurors, some astounding evidence, including text messages, were presented, which led to the trial judge commenting after the case was concluded, that it was the most clear-cut case he had presided over in his extensive time of service on the bench.
